Known as the "luckiest fishing village", Destin is the home to some of the best saltwater fishing in the United States. The 100 Fathom  (600' depth) Curve of the Gulf of Mexico draws closer
to Destin than any other spot in Florida. This, along  with  Destin's close  proximity  to  the East  Pass  and  the Gulf  of Mexico, allows quick access to the Gulf of Mexico's  fishing bounty.
The  purpose  of  this site  is  to acquaint a new fisherman  to  the Destin area  -  our local facilities, fish, waters and fishing methods. Tight lines and good fishing!

Hewett Bayou

This web site is updated as I have time from other things going on. As there are a 1000 + different ways to do things, this is only
my way of fishing, nothing else,  and it is not the last word in fishing the area. I am by no means an expert but if you would like my opinion on something related to fishing the area,
please email me at
FishingDestinGuide@cox.net.  It may take a few days before I get to it, so be patient. Thanks.....

Spent a few hours on Hewett Bayou this morning. Hewett Bayou is
located about 8 miles east of Destin Commons, off of Hogtown Bayou.

Nice day, got started late, around 8:30. Put in at the Bay Circle boat
ramp which is a small, narrow ramp, suitable only for kayaks and small
boats. You could launch a small jon boat there with a trailer if you are
careful. The sandy bottom drops off sharply after the concrete ends. No
real parking as it is an end-of-the street ramp with houses on both sides.
Someone has planted shrubs on both sides of the street but still enough
room on the shoulder for one or two vehicles.

If you have a boat of any size, I would put in at the Cessna Landing park
which has a first class ramp.

Used artificials, gold spoons, MirrOlure, DOA shrimp. Hooked onto a trout
around 9:15 but got off at the boat. Hooked another one (or the same
one ?) about 2 minutes later and landed him. A little over 19" on a
MirrOlure. Went all the way to the south end of the bayou throwing at
docks and the grass, nothing. Saw a few mullet jumping but could not
locate the schools.

Back at the entrance channel was able to land a little dink trout, again on
the same MirrOlure.. Got hot quick and was back at the ramp by 10:30am.

Water clarity was not that good, still a little muddy. Had a north wind
initially then switched to a south wind, maybe 10 knots.
